Software Developer

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer with Embedded Systems experience to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in designing, developing, and testing embedded software solutions, particularly in military or aerospace applications. You will work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to design software for our  displays, ensuring adherence to military and customer specifications.

RESPONSIBILIES

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for military-grade display systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to develop integrated solutions.
  • Write and optimize low-level code for real-time operating systems (RTOS) or bare-metal applications.
  • Develop drivers, interfaces, and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, UART, SPI, I2C).
  • Perform system-level debugging and troubleshooting of embedded systems.
  • Ensure software compliance with military standards and specifications (e.g., MIL-STD, DO-178C).
  • Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and performance tuning to ensure system reliability and functionality.
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement of software development practices.
  • Work on projects that involve secure and encrypted data communications, ensuring system robustness against cyber threats.
  • Support and maintain legacy systems, updating and upgrading code as needed.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in embedded software development, preferably in military, aerospace, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and assembly language for embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers (ARM, PIC, etc.) and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, etc.
  • Familiarity with military or aerospace industry standards, including MIL-STD and DO-178C.
  • Strong debugging skills using tools such as JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Knowledge of safety-critical and security requirements for military-grade systems.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and development tools (e.g., Eclipse, Keil, IAR).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Experience with graphical display systems and related technologies (OpenGL, DirectX).
  • Experience with hardware/software co-design.
  • Familiarity with encryption and secure communication methods for defense applications.
  • Previous experience in agile development methodologies.

Electrical Engineer

DESCRIPTION

General Digital offers a variety of rugged electronic LCD monitor products designed for commercial, industrial, and military use in high technology applications, and is looking for an experienced engineer for development of LCD monitors and their corresponding electrical systems. This position would be responsible for the design of hardware, firmware, and software to perform a variety of control features within the monitors.

Current embedded systems are based on Microchip PIC processors using a variety of interfaces (I2C, SPI, RS-232, Ethernet). The candidate would also be responsible for designing and testing LCD Monitors.

REQUIREMENTS

  • U.S. Citizen
  • BA/BS in Electrical, Systems, or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of design experience
  • Extensive understanding of electronics and debugging procedures
  • Experience in circuit design and PCB layout
  • Experience with microprocessor design and corresponding firmware, including I2C, SPI, RS-232, Ethernet
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral
  • Self-motivated team player with strong organizational and multitasking skills

This position would be responsible for the design of hardware enclosures and other systems for ruggedization.

REQUIREMENTS

  • U.S. Citizen
  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of design experience
  • Extensive understanding of mechanical design principles
  • Experience in metal enclosures or similar materials
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Creo, and/or other similar tools
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral
  • Self-motivated team player with strong organizational and multitasking skills

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Experience working on LCDs
  • Experience with MIL-STD-810
  • Experience with optics
